The current flag of the United Kingdom, made particularly familiar to us by history, medias and James Bond, is only two centuries old, since it celebrates the union between England, Scotland and then Ireland, union made official on the first of may 1801. It consists in the fusion of the flags of these three countries, which remained separate for a long time : the cross of Saint-Georges, red under white for England, the cross of Saint-Andrew, a white X under blue for Scotland, and the cross of Saint-Patrick, a red X under white for Ireland. If Northern Ireland set free, the United Kingdom flag should step backward and take back its appearance of 1606.
